Cheltenham Festival Gold Cup Form Guide
The Cheltenham Gold Cup form is always very straightforward as the winner of the King George at Kempton at Christmas has a great record in this race. The last few winners, Kauto Star, Kicking King, and Best Mate have all won the King George and gone onto to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in the same season. Other races that are important in the build up to the Cheltenham Gold Cup are the Aon Chase which was won by Denman this year. The Lexus Chase run at Leopardstown at Christmas is another important trial for the Gold Cup. The Betfair Chase run earlier in the season is another important race as Betfair put up a million pounds for any horse that wins the Betfair, the King George and the Gold Cup all in the same season, Kauto Star did this last year. There are a couple of others for you to consider in Exotic Dancer, who finished second to Kauto Star in the 2007 Gold Cup, but his form seems to have gone backward this season as, he has tried on numerous occasions to beat Kauto Star and has failed on all tries to date. It looks like he has given up the ghost of ever getting by Kauto.
Another that many will look at is the 2005 winner Kicking King. After 2 years recovering from injury we saw him return to the track in January and ran very well over an inadequate distance. He has bounced since that run in his second comeback run and as such is now a very big price for the Gold Cup.
